Our training caters to the needs of our members: from those looking for realistic self-defense or effective competition training, to those who simply train for improved health, fitness, and FUN.
We take pride in our relaxed atmosphere—that while safe and welcoming to beginners and experienced athletes alike—has always proved rewarding time and time again.
Muay Thai is an intense and exciting martial art which involves the use of punches, kicks, knees and elbow strikes for self defence and in competition.
Our classes begin with a warm up which may include running, skipping, shadow boxing and other bodyweight exercises.
Bag work, Pad work and drilling with a partner follows to develop technique power, timing and speed, Classes finish with some conditioning work and a cool-down.
Train along with some of New Zealand’s former and current champions and learn from one of New Zealand’s and Palmerston North’s most experienced trainer, Stew Chambers
Our Dek Thai program is aimed towards children 5-11yrs old and features an adapted syllabus to both serve as an introduction to Muay Thai and to help teach your child balance, coordination, self control, discipline, awareness, and sportsmanship as well as many other positive life skills.
Gracie Gym NZ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
It has been shown countless times that Men, Women and Children can be forced to the ground — intentionally or accidentally — when attacked by a larger, stronger assailants. With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu it is not only possible to survive such situations, but to gain control and ultimately force the attacker into submission or unconsciousness. The Fight Shop NZ offers 6 unique programs which will provide a solid foundation of Jr MacGyver/ Crolin Gracie BJJ as a sport and self defence, which allows you to learn dynamic and fun exercises, boost your metabolism, help you build strength and endurance and gain flexibility Our BJJ Coaches follow a structured program and all classes are taught in a friendly, social and laid back atmosphere.
Blue Belt Program:
There’s never been a better time to start learning Jiu-Jitsu. Start from the beginning and learn it the right way. Start with a white belt and finish the program by testing for your Blue. By the time you earn your Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you will be proficient in all of the core techniques of our syllabus and have the opportunity to continue the journey in our Purple Belt Program.
Purple Belt Program:
Following from receiving your blue belt you will have the opportunity to enter into our Purple Belt Program. Improving on strategy, tightness, and timing is the focus towards achieving your purple belt. You will gain an indepth knowledge of fundamental positions, transitions, and submissions, and will be able to apply the fundamentals with excellence.
Brown Belt to Black Belt Program:
From receiving your purple belt you will have the opportunity to enter into the brown belt program.The real purpose of the Brown Belt is to allow a practitioner time to take his game from “Fantastic” to “Damn Near Perfect”.
Teen BJJ “New Generation”
This class is aimed towards 14 – 17 year olds, and will fill the gap between the kids and adults classes. This is the perfect class for young adults to experience BJJ. For those that enjoy competition, there are many opportunities throughout the year where Teens come together to test their skills against others that are the same size & weight as them. Teens Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition is all about sportsmanship with rules that make it safe for your child to compete.
Kids BJJ “Mat Monsters”
Our Mat monsters, is aimed at children 8 to 13yrs old and has a specialized BJJ syllabus that will teach your child balance, coordination, self control, discipline, awareness, and sportsmanship as well as many other positive life skills. For those that enjoy competition, there are many opportunities throughout the year where Kids & Teens come together to test their skills against others that are the same size & weight as them. Kids & Teens Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition is all about sportsmanship with rules that make it safe for your child to compete.
Mixed Martial Arts
Our MMA classes focus on Kickboxing/Muay Thai skills for striking and defence against strikes while standing, Wrestling to take our opponent down or defend your opponents takedowns and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to finish the fight on the ground or defend against your opponents strikes.
We use the most fundamental and highly effective techniques of these three styles in our MMA training. Whilst partaking in those separate classes will have more scope to go into greater depth in parts, putting them all together is an art unto itself…
Kids MMA Program (8-13yrs)
The Fight Shop NZ offers a Kids & Teen MMA Program which focuses on teaching a well-rounded base of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Muay Thai and Boxing
Our goal is to build your child’s self confidence, self-esteem and appreciation for self-discipline and responsibility. We want to allow each child to grow and develop at their own pace. By learning valuable techniques we hope each child gains the courage to attempt new and difficult tasks not just associated with Martial Arts but in other areas of life as well. Most importantly we want to teach children that setting and reaching goals through hard work and dedication can be FUN!
TEEN MMA (14-17yrs)
Our Teen MMA Program focuses not only on the physical benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Muay Thai and Boxing but also the importance of self-discipline, goal-setting and proper decision making. In addition, your teen will learn practical self-defense. All this is done in a very fun, high-energy environment that your teen will enjoy. For those that enjoy competition, there are many opportunities throughout the year where Teens come together to test their skills against others that are the same size & weight as them. Teens MMA competition’s are all about sportsmanship with rules that make it safe for them to compete.
The Fight Shop NZ Wrestling classes combine the Olympic sports of Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling. In our classes you will learn all of the throws and takedowns of these dynamic arts. With wrestling skills you will be able to force your opponent to right where you want them—down on the ground. We employ the same training methods that are used in elite wrestling schools worldwide… the kind of conditioning that will develop explosive strength, fitness and work out muscles you thought never existed.
Our Box Fit is the “total body” – non contact 50min workout. This workout is for everyone. We will teach you how to hit and move like the professionals do.
You will properly learn Rhythm, Coordination, Stance, Footwork, How to Jump Rope, Punch Combinations, How to Hit Heavy Bags, How to Hit Focus Mits and More!!!
This class is great for developing strength, rhythm and hand-eye coordination. It is an awesome stress reliever. As with any group class, you can work at your own level, so don’t think that you need to be fit to start. This workout is for everyone, all skill levels are welcome, you don’t need any previous experience as our trainers will teach you how to hit and move like the professionals do.
You will learn:

Box Fit is great for developing strength, rhythm, hand speed, foot speed eye/hand coordination, and is an awesome stress reliever.
The aim of this training is simple. To improve your endurance by not only improving the way your cardiovascular system transports blood to your working muscles, but also by conditioning your muscles to more efficiently utilise the nutrients being provided to them by your blood supply. This training method utilizes high intensity resistance strength training, with short rest intervals between exercises. Research has shown that Cardiovascular and Metabolic conditioning when utilized properly will have better results than those that can simply be gained with more traditional Cardio activities. The result is you burn fat for longer, your muscles become stronger and can be utilized for longer periods of time without rest.

$60 per hour Personal training sessions are available for any of the programs we offer but they have to be set up by appointment only. Personal tuition enables you to get one on one instruction and will help you excel at a faster level.
Tuition is available Mon – Sun at various times depending not only on your schedule, but ours as well.
